Carolivia Herron
Author and scholar Carolivia Herron is the daughter of Georgia Herron and niece of Richard Johnson, two siblings of the original Johnson family that moved onto Douglas Street in the early 1900's. Her two children's books, Nappy Hair and Little Georgia and the Apples, are based in her and her family's experiences on Douglas Street. She is passionate about Douglas Street and Kenilworth community history, and hopes to someday turn the old family home into a neighborhood museum and community center.

Covenant House Woodshop
I met the folks at the Covenant House Woodshop in 2003 when they were just getting their program going in a space on Kenilworth Avenue in DC. They are doing incredible work using carpentry to teach job and life skills to at-risk young adults. They make money engraving wood pieces for awards, and they also sell their hand-crafted boxes and other wood items at local fairs - buy from them!
