Washington DC historian Kathy Smith recently edited a second edition of the industry-standard book on the history of Washington DC's residential communities, Washington at Home, and included my essay about Kenilworth in this fabulous work. Published by Johns Hopkins University Press, this anthology combines historical depth with coffee-table appeal as individual writers present well-researched essays on their particular neighborhood of expertise. All 26 chapters include neighborhood maps, and well-laid-out pages showcase hundreds of high-quality historical photographs.
This edition includes more neighborhoods from east of the Anacostia River, a conscious choice by the editor to help highlight the rich history of this often-underrepresented area.
You can find this book on Amazon, of course, but if you buy it directly from Cultural Tourism DC , the book's sponsor, they will get a larger percentage of your dollars to fund their important work promoting Washington DC's cultural life and institutions.
Makes a great gift!
